The Belkin PureAV AV20500 is designed to transmit pure, high-quality low frequency signals from your receiver to your subwoofer. This subwoofer cable features shielding to protect it against from interference, gold-plating to increase conductivity and 24k gold plugs to give you a solid connection. It doesn’t offer as many length options as the Mediabridge Ultra Series, nor does it have the throughout customer support of the Impact Acoustics Velocity 29120, but it is still one of the best speaker wires that we reviewed and the popularity winner.
Gold-plated connectors are common among all the audio cables in our review. This is because gold is an excellent conductor of electricity. Plus, it’s resistant to corrosion, unlike some other metals. The reason that the tips are only plated is because it would be impractical and very expensive to have a solid gold plug. The 24-karat gold plating on the AV20500 subwoofer cable is sufficient enough to get the job done.
Items such as fluorescent lights, cordless phones or refrigerators can cause interference with an audio signal being transmitted through a wire. For this reason shielding is important to prevent any unwanted humming, buzzing or static appearing in your sound. This subwoofer cable is double-shielded against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).
The Belkin PureAV AV20500 audio cable’s first line of defense against EMI and RFI is with an aluminum/Mylar foil shield. This foil covers 100-percent of the cord without any holes or gaps. Then there is a second layer of shielding provided by a braided copper covering. These two shields collect the interference and divert it through the ground wire, away from the subwoofer.
If these shields were touching the solid-core bass conductor, however, the shielding itself would interfere with the signal. For this reason, a layer of polyethylene dielectric material is wrapped around the copper core. Dielectric material does not conduct electricity and, therefore, keeps any electric current from dissipating through the subwoofer cable.
In order to get a better contact with the outlet, this subwoofer cable uses a split-tip center pin. A split center pin makes the connection snugger. Between the split-tip center pin and the 6-cut 24-karat gold connectors, you’re sure to get a tight fit and a solid connection.
The Belkin PureAV AV20500 subwoofer cable is RoHS compliant. This means that no hazardous materials, such as lead and mercury, were used in the manufacturing of this speaker wire. However, this audio cable is not rated for in-wall usage. Wires rated for in-wall usage feature fire-resistant materials that help prevent a fire from spreading.
This subwoofer cable is only available in two length options: 15 feet and 25 feet. While this will satisfy the needs of most users, it doesn’t offer as many options as other speaker wires we reviewed. Depending on where the subwoofer is placed, these wires may not be long enough for certain home theater configurations or they may require the user to tie up excess cable.
If you need any assistance with this subwoofer cable, you can contact customer support on the manufacturer’s website. The customer support page looks user-friendly, but it’s actually not very easy to use. When we were trying to search for our product by model number we were unable to find it. If you click on the “Ask a Question” button you’ll find that you have to create an account to ask a question there. The easiest way to get assistance on the Belkin site is to click on “contact support” and send an email, use their telephone number or click on the “Chat with a Support Assistant” link.
Belkin produces a variety of quality audio accessories, and their subwoofer cable is no exception. This audio cable is capable of carrying a pure audio signal from the receiver to the subwoofer. It is double-shielded to prevent any interference and it has 24-karat gold RCA connectors for better conductivity through the solid copper core. Using the Belkin PureAV AV20500 subwoofer is a great way to get rich, clear audio from your home theater system.
